Teaser Tuesday 206: The Last Boyfriend

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

This week I am reading The Last Boyfriend by Nora Roberts, the second book in her Inn BoonsBoro trilogy. I'm loving the humor in this one, so thought I'd share one of the passages that had me laughing out loud (much to the amusement of my neighbors, I'm sure). And yes, it's more than two lines, but I'm sure you'll agree it's worth it. This is between Ryder, his mother Justin, and the new innkeeper, Hope. Not the two main characters of this particular book, but important ones nonetheless.

"Busy doesn't serve as an excuse for rude. Does it, Ryder?"

"No ma'am. I'd be happy to hang your shelves," he said to Hope, "if you’ll show me where you want them."

"That's better." Justine gave him one last hard look before she went back across the hall.

"Well?" Ryder demanded. "Where am I putting them?"

"The suggestion I have at the moment wouldn't be the walls."

(Chapter two)

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Inn BoonsBoro, book two

Owen is the organizer of the Montgomery clan, running the family's construction business with an iron fist — and an even less flexible spreadsheet. And though his brothers bust on his compulsive list-making, the Inn BoonsBoro is about to open right on schedule. The only thing Owen didn't plan for was Avery McTavish . . .

Avery's popular pizza place is right across the street from the inn, giving her a first-hand look at its amazing renovation — and a newfound appreciation for Owen. Since he was her first boyfriend when they were kids, Owen has never been far from Avery's thoughts. But the attraction she's feeling for him now is far from innocent.

As Avery and Owen cautiously take their relationship to another level, the opening of the inn gives the whole town of Boonsboro a reason to celebrate. But Owen's hard work has only begun. Getting Avery to let down her guard is going to take longer than he expected — and so will getting her to realize that her first boyfriend is going to be her last . . .

Moirae: The great thing about Nora Roberts is there's something for everyone. Some prefere straight romance, others her rom-suspense or JD Robb books. She also tends to delve into the paranormal quite a bit, as is the case with her new Cousins O'Dwyer trilogy.

Alice: She does do good dialogue. There was another scene with one of the kids that cracked me up, too.

Laurel-Rain: I hope you enjoy it as much as I have when you get to it! :D

Nise': It has been a good series so far. Must break for a couple other books, though, before getting back to book three.

Shelley: This one has a lot more humor than the first book did, but then -- the plots and characters are completely different.

Heather said...

Book: Thanks!. Hope you get to this series soon. :D

Trish: Yes, you must! As mentioned to Moirae, she has something for everyone, whether you like straight romance, or rom-suspense.
