Teaser Tuesday 249: Wicked Weaves

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

I am currently reading Wicked Weaves by Joyce and Jim Lavene, a mystery set at a Renaissance faire.

It got very quiet around us, and I sneaked a glance back. No one was looking at Livy anymore. She’d even stopped pretending to swoon and was staring at the man with the rest of us. Everyone was waiting to see if he was going to wake up.

(Chapter two)

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Renaissance Faire Book 1

Jessie has been working at the Renaissance Faire every summer since she graduated from college. Now that she’s studying for her Ph.D., it's not just work; it's research. This summer her apprenticeship is with Mary Shift—a skilled basket maker with a dark past.

Things appear to be going without a hitch, until a man is bid a deadly fare-thee-well and Mary's signature weave is found wrapped around his neck. It's up to Jessie to spring Mary from the stocks of the Myrtle Beach police station. Yet innocence is hard to prove in a place where there’s a fine line between reality and good theater—and history is bound to repeat itself . . .

Heidi: So far it's going pretty good, thanks!

Laura: Tell me about it! I have several books of theirs in Mount TBR in four or five different series -- maybe six. :-\

Interesting. It doesn't seem like a book I would normally read, but you've piqued my interest. :)

Beth: I finished it last night, and while it was an okay mystery, I'm not sure what I think of this cast of characters, or whether I'd like to continue the series.

I like the setting.

A great setting for a book! Wow.

So you haven't been feeling well? I thought you had gotten awfully quiet.

Alice: Definitely an interesting setting for a book!

Alice: Affirmative. I came down with another cold last week, and also whacked my knee really good against my desk. It still hurts like heck a week later, but at least I can almost breath again. :-\
