Teaser Tuesday 268: The Blood of Olympus

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jenn of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

This week I am teasing from the final “Heroes of Olympus” book, The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan. I’ve enjoyed this spin-off series as much as I did the original, and am sad to see it end. The action really pulls one in to the adventures, though it can be a bit confusing at times keeping the various demigods straight in this one. And did I mention the humor? I’m sharing three snippets from this book, on account of not being able to choose (and be grateful I narrowed it down to three).

Naturally, the situation was worse than Jason expected.

It wouldn’t have been any fun otherwise.

(Chapter II)

"Hey, wake up." Reyna’s eyes fluttered open. Gleeson Hedge was leaning over her, shaking her shoulder. "We got trouble."

His grave tone got her blood moving.

"What is it?" She struggled to sit up. "Ghosts? Monsters?"

Hedge scowled. "Worse. Tourists."

(Chapter VI)

Frank knelt. He gathered up the net under Nike's chin and raised her face to his. "What are you talking about? How do we find this cure?"

"I will not help you," Nike growled. "I will curse you with my power, net or no!"

She began to mutter in Ancient Greek.

Frank looked up, scowling. "Can she really cast magic through this net?"

"Heck if I know," Leo said.

Frank dropped the goddess. He took off one of his shoes, peeled off his sock, and stuffed it in the goddess's mouth.

(Chapter XII)

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Series: Heroes of Olympus #5

Nico has warned them. Going through the House of Hades would stir the demigods' worst memories. Their ghosts would become restless. Nico may actually become a ghost if he has to shadow-travel with Reyna and Coach Hedge one more time. But that might be better than the alternative: allowing someone else to die, as Hades foretold.

Jason's ghost is his mother, who abandoned him when he was little. He may not know how he is going to prove himself as a leader, but he does know that he will not break promises like she did. He will complete his line of the prophecy: To storm or fire the world must fall.

Reyna fears the ghosts of her ancestors, who radiate anger. but she can’t allow them to distract her from getting the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood before the war breaks out between the Romans and the Greeks. Will she have enough strength to succeed, especially with a deadly hunter on her trail?

Leo fears that his plan won't work, that his friends might interfere. But there is no other way. All of them know that one of the Seven has to die in order to defeat Gaea, the Earth Mother.

Piper must learn to give herself over to fear. Only then will she be able to do her part at the end: utter a single word.

Heroes, gods, and monsters all have a role to play in the climactic fulfillment of the prophecy in The Blood of Olympus, the electrifying finale of the best-selling Heroes of Olympus series.

Other books I have teased by this author:
* The Lightning Thief
* The Lost Hero
* The House of Hades

I like the humor. I haven't read these. My YA teaser this week comes from The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey. Happy reading!

Sonia Lal: Thanks, I'm glad you liked!

Kathy: I highly recommend this series. I'm glad my sister got me hooked on them.

Alice: This is book five in a series, and I do recommend starting from book one as there is an over-lapping journey and references made to previous books in the series. It definitely kept me laughing and turning the pages.
