While walking at Indian Springs Park last weekend, I saw a ton of dragonflies, especially the large red ones which kept landing in the grass, though one did try to land on my hand.

Such fascinating and entertaining creatures!
Beth -- I love watching all the different dragonflies. I especially like the ones I see at the Arb prairies that are as big as small birds.
WE used to call them sewing needles!
Colleen: I recently saw them referred to as "mosquito hawks" in a book I was reading, and I think I've heard the term "darning needles" applied to dragonflies as well.
I like dragonflies, if for nothing else then for their mosquito diets.
Alice: Their mosquito diets is one of the things I love best about them!
I've never seen a red one. Pretty neat!
Jana: We get a LOT of read ones in our area. They really stand out against the green grass.
Dragonflies are very interesting insects. I've never seen a red one.
Lea -- Thanks. I wonder if the red are more usual here in the north, since neithef you nor Jana has seen one?
