Thursday Thirteen 385: Recently Read

Here's a look at what I've been reading the last couple months. So far, I have completed 70 in my Goodreads goal of 100. As always, click on any cover or link to find out more about a particular book.

ABOUT THE BOOKS:

ROW 1: The first row is a trilogy by Vicki Lewis Thompson, the end of her "Sons of Chance" series, which was released over the last few summers, three at a time. These fulfilled the "trilogy" requirement for the Ultimate Challenge.

ROW 2: Inferno is the most recent release in Dan Brown’s "Robert Langdon" series and was borrowed from my sister. The Killing Game by Iris Johansen has been in Mount TBR for more than a decade now, and is the second book in her popular Eve Duncan series. She'll Never Know by Hunter Morgan was another challenge book, this one for a "Read the USA" mystery challenge for a book set in Delaware.

ROW 3: A selection of cozy mysteries, all read for one challenge or another, mostly the "Monthly Mini" challenges in the Cozy Mysteries group. Death of a Gossip is about a fly fishing school in Scotland. Calamity Jayne fit an "ice cream" challenge and was pretty funny. Clammed Up is about a family clam bake service set in Maine. All are first books in their respective series.

ROW 4: A couple more cozies . . . Miranda James/Dean James was the July Featured Author in the Cozy Mysteries group. Peach Pies and Alibis fit a Mini Challenge of a dog on the cover (plus, I caught up a bit on this series). Pippi Longstocking was a reread of a childhood classic, and fit a mini challenge of a book with a yellow cover, a book originally published in another language for the "Ultimate" Challenge, and a book set in Sweden for the "World Trip" challenge. It was fun reading this one again!

ROW 5: The Waves was my third novel by Virginia Woolf and, as with the previous two, was for a group read. This one was slow-going for me, due to the writing style. Definitely NOT a fast read.

What's on your nightstand or Ereader these days?

I'm reading The Mystery Box, a collection of short stories by mystery writers with the goal of finding a new author to enjoy. :)

Also I appreciate you posting your finds. Thanks.

Mia: That title sounds familiar -- here's to finding new-to-you authors! ☺

Pippi Longstocking! Haven't thought of that book in a while.

I am listening to a Nora Roberts book, reading something about creativity on my e-reader, and reading a book on depression at the moment. Not all at once, of course.

Anita: I enjoyed revisiting Pippi. There was a lot I didn't remember. I look forward to hearing about the NR and creativity books!

I haven't read "Inferno" yet, though I've enjoyed Dan Brown's Langdon books. Shhhh don't tell anyone. LOL!!!!

I think that title should read "death BY gossip. Maybe the guy should put his shirt on for a change.

Jennifer: This "Langdon" is as fast-paced as the previous books in the series. I read it in only two days.

Colleen: Trust me, "of a" is appropriate. I would recommend this one to anyone who likes both mysteries and fishing. And hey -- I like Vicki's shirtless covers. In fact, I just picked up two more of her cowboys last week. ;-D
