Teaser Tuesday 278: Murder Past Due

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jenn of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

This week’s teaser is from Murder Past Due by Miranda James, book one in the “Cat in the Stacks” series. Love the cat in this one!

Overhead lights illuminated the room, the reception area of the suite. The smells were stronger now, and I approached one of the two couches with dread, certain of what I would find.

Three steps more and I could look down over the back of the sofa.

(Chapter Eight)

Series: Cat in the Stacks #1

Everyone in Athena, Mississippi knows Charlie Harris, the good-natured librarian with a rescued Maine coon cat named Diesel that he walks on a leash. Charlie’s returned to his hometown to immerse himself in books, but soon enough he’s entangled in a real-life thriller . . .

A famous author of gory bestsellers and a former classmate of Charlie’s, Godfrey Priest, may be the pride of Athena, but Charlie remembers him as an arrogant, manipulative jerk—and he’s not the only one. Godfrey’s homecoming as a distinguished alumnus couldn’t possibly go worse: by lunch, he’s put a man in the hospital. And by dinner, Godfrey’s dead.

Now it’s up to Charlie, with some help from Diesel, to paw through the town’s grudges and find the killer before an impatient deputy throws the book at the wrong person. But every last one of Charlie’s friends and coworkers had a score to settle with the nasty novelist. As if murder wasn’t already purr-plexing enough . . .

I need to get on board with this series. Or, I just need to get a cat in our stacks to catch all the geckos that live in there. *shudders*

There's another librarian series you might like as well by Jenn McKinlay --the main character in that series is a librarian with a dog. Then there's Elizabeth Lynn Casey's "Southern Sewing Circle" series that also has a main character who is a librarian. ;)

Something found by smell in a mystery novel can only be a dead body. Or a red herring.

Alice: Usually -- but not always. ;-)
