Teaser Tuesday 286: The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jenn of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

This week’s teaser is from The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax by Dorothy Gilman, a mystery that takes us to Mexico and Albania.

Her concentration was interrupted by harsh shouts from outside the building, and then by the sound of guns being fired. Mrs. Pollifax very carefully placed the cup of water on the major’s desk and was pleased to see that her hand was not trembling.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Series: Mrs. Pollifax #1

MEET MRS. POLLIFAX

Mrs. Virgil (Emily) Pollifax of New Brunswick, New Jersey, was a widow with grown, married children. She was tired of attending her Garden Club meetings. She wanted to do something good for her country. So, naturally, she became a CIA agent.

THE UNEXPECTED MRS. POLLIFAX

In this utterly charming tale of suspense, one of our most famous and unusual fictional spies takes on a “job” in Mexico City. The assignment doesn’t sound dangerous at first, but then, as often happens, something goes wrong. Now, our dear Mrs. Pollifax finds herself embroiled in quite a hot Cold War — and her country’s enemies find themselves entangled with one unbelievable feisty lady.

I've heard of her, but haven't read any of the books yet. Sounds like fun. Well, for those of us not actually getting our hands tied behind our backs or bullet fired off nearby.
