Teaser Tuesday 287: Aunt Dimity and the Deep Blue Sea

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jenn of A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

This week’s teaser is from one of my favorite cozy mystery series, Aunt Dimity and the Deep Blue Sea by Nancy Atherton. This is a non-murder mystery series that might appeal to those who don’t care for anything sinister in their reading. Please note: I do advise reading this series in order

I looked up, too, and felt a sliver of ice slide down my spine.

A human skull sat wedged in a crevice near the top of the rock, well above the high-water line. It stared down at us, grinning its timeless, maniacal grin, and for a shattering moment I thought that its fleshless maw had emitted a cackle of laughter, but it was only the shriek of a passing gull.

(Chapter Eight)

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Series: Aunt Dimity #11

When Lori Shepherd’s husband receives a series of death threats aimed at her and their twin boys, she retreats to a remote island off the Scottish coast and to a fabulous castle restored by an eccentric adventurer. There she is drawn into a mystery that may involve an illegal smuggling operation or worse. Why has a human skull washed up on the beach? Is a desolate island really the best place to hide from a murderer? And will Aunt Dimity’s supernatural kibitzing help Lori solve the case before it’s too late?
