Thursday Thirteen 403: Snowy walk

We had snow here Monday night -- nowhere near the amount they received out east, but more than twice what was originally predicted, for a total of 4.5 inches. Having Tuesday afternoon off, I forced myself out for a bit of fresh air with my camera. There wasn't a squirrel in sight, but I did see a couple of wild turkeys (not close enough to photograph), as well as a lone hawk soaring overhead. There was also a bit of activity at the local sledding hill.

The weirdest thing about this dried flower cluster is that there
were no bushes -- flowering or otherwise -- anywhere near them.

Turkey tracks -- I followed these downhill for half a block,
until they abruptly disappeared. There were no signs
of them wading through someone's yard, and I did not
see them across the street. They simply vanished.

Pretty snow scenes!
Very interesting to find a dried flower there in the snow. A strong wind must have picked it up and carried it along.
Hope you are having a beautiful day!

Lea: Thank you, and that is most likely how the flowers ended up where they were. We had a sustained wind of about 10mph the last couple days, with gusts 10-15 above that. Which is why my walk was a short one.

I especially like that sled shot. It's amazing how blogging and love of photography can pull us out into the world when we otherwise would stay put!

Thanks, Colleen! I liked how well that shot turned out, considering I was at foot of the hill, and they were halfway up. New blog fodder was indeed one of the things that lured me out that day. :D

Well, turkey's do fly. Sometimes.

That first sledding hill shot gives me the feeling of falling. Or maybe sliding. :)

Alice: They do fly short distances, but there would have been tell-tale signs on the ground such as dragging feet or wings would leave. I didn't see them in any nearby trees or on rooftops, either. I think he walked along the street a ways -- there was enough traffic to obscure any animal tracks there.

You always have beautiful photos! I love these snowy pictures!

Thanks, Beth! I wish I had been able to spot the turkey(s) that went with the tracks. Maybe if I had been out before school let out for the day and the sledding hill was empty...

Thomas: Thank you. :)

Forgetfulone: Thank you. Maybe I'll be able to get out Tues or Wed and get some more during or after the storm comes through. They still aren't sure how much our area will see, with totals ranging from four inches up to a foot. :-\
