CowParade: On WisCOWnsin

On WisCOWnsin
Location: Langdon St, in front of the Red Gym
Artist: Sue Medaris
Sponsor: University of Wisconsin

In honor of the Badger football team’s season opener this weekend. The team plays Bowling Green Saturday night and we’re hoping for better results than when the two teams met last year. It’s also the first game under new coach Bret Bielema, Barry Alvarez’s successor and former defensive coordinator for the University of Wisconsin. Alvarez retired as head coach after last season and is now concentrating fulltime on his position as UW athletic director.

This Bucky-esque bovine is located in front of the historic Red Gym on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, right next to the Memorial Union and on the shores of beautiful Lake Mendota. Built in 1894, this castle-like structure has been used as a military training facility, gymnasium, infirmary, art exhibition space and convention hall, and currently is a student and visitors center, welcome all to Madison and the University campus. It was nearly torn down a number of times over the years, and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1993.
