Thursday Thirteen #5: Places I've Been

THIRTEEN PLACES I'VE BEEN

1. Norway: Oslo, Stavanger, Kristiansand -- but primarily Hellvik and Egersund, plus a few little towns along the southwest coast. (I was an exchange student and lived in the tiny, picturesque village of Hellvik, outside Egersund.)

2. France: Paris, Loire Valley (Chartres, Chenonceaux, and my personal favorite -- Chambord).

3. Canada: Sowerby, London, and Toronto (all in Ontario).

4. New Orleans (Twice, pre-Katrina).

5. Denver, Colorado (A few times--we lived in Brush for a few years when I was little, plus I was there for RWA several years back).

6. Black Hills, South Dakota (friends and I camped a week there several years ago. LOVED it, want to go back!)

7. Natchitoches, LA (Where "Steel Magnolias" was filmed; Melrose Plantation was a memorable highlight) and Shreveport.

8. Pittsburgh (could they possibly have any more bridges??) and Gettysburg, PA (A sobering experience, but definitely worth visiting.)

9. Washington, DC (Three times so far, and still haven't seen everything I want to.)

10. Memphis, TN (Home of the blues, baby!)

11. Dover and Rehoboth Beach, DE (One of our day trips during a week out east)

12. Virginia and Maryland: Richmond, Alexandria, Arlington, Baltimore, Annapolis (The great thing about visiting friends in Alexandria is that it is so close to many other great cities -- the sunset cruise on the Chesapeake Bay up to Annapolis was awesome!)

13. Michigan's Upper Upper Peninsula (Eagle Harbor, Copper Harbor, Whitefish Point, Sault Ste. Marie, Mackinac Island...)

Man, I really miss being able to travel.

You have been literally everywhere. almost. I'm sure there are a few places left you would like to explore. Nashville is great. I've been several times. Did you go on the dinner boat cruise? I don't see Georgia on that list- when will you be coming this way?

Wow! Have you checked out the Travel Channel's 1000 Places to See Before You Die? Bet you've been to half of 'em! Lucky...

That is so amazing. I so want to travel more outside of the United States. What wonderful memories you must have.

Um, Sowerby? Where is that in relation to T.O.? (Toronto) That's where I live.

Crikey--I'm so jealous of your travels! I've wanted to go overseas and see so many things...

I want to go to all the places overseas you've seen! I've been to all but two of the ones in the US. Fly me away, baby!

Very impressive list, Heather.
I hate traveling, LOL. Yes, I know I'm weird. It probably has to do with dragging around half my belongings as a teen, on my mother's excursion to England. And that traveling with children sucks, but maybe I'd like it if I got the chance to do it alone. :)

Cool list.

I grew up in Pittsburgh, and lived for 2 years in Maryland (just outside of DC) so I've seen LOTS of those places, lol.

What great travels you've had!
I'll be in Denver in a few weeks, and I can add it to my list - I'm extremely excited >G<.

1. I've been basically nowhere!
2. Where do you get the special 13 headers? Mine are the basics...

You made it to Memphis...C'mon, hun, just a few more miles and you'd be in Mississippi! The BIRTHPLACE of the blues. And Elvis. And stinky cows, cotton, catfish and...oh yeah, ME!

Kissa~ LOL...not quite everywhere, and yes there are quite a few places I'd like to go. Maybe I'll list some of them for next week. Haven't been to Nashville yet, but we did go on a Mississppi cruise while in Memphis (and the captain hit on me after, LOL). Wish I could have made it to Atlanta last year so I could add another state to my list.

Gina~ I had a note to watch the first week of 1000 Places...and then totally forgot about it -- and that was the week they did Alaska and Italy. *Sniff* I need to check upcoming destinations...

R.G.~ I want to travel more outside the US too. Maybe when we win the lottery, eh? I do have some pretty great memories of the places I have been, though.

Elle~ LOL...I'm not surprised you've not heard of it. It's east of Sault Ste. Marie, near Thessalon. Blink and you'll miss it. A friend's family has land up there and I spent a week with them one summer during college. We went white water canoing on the Little White and I loved it. Don't think I could do that since injuring my neck a few years ago.

Thanks Rhonda~ I hope to get overseas again some day myself. I'm sure you'll get there eventually, too!

Crystal~ All but two in the US? Which two are you missing? Methinks you need to rectify that situation! ;)

Wow, you've done a lot of travelling :) I'd love to see Memphis some day

Wow! I haven't visited any of these places apart from Paris. I have some catching up to do!

Jenn~ Can't say I blame you for not wanting to travel with children. The right travel companion(s) can really make a difference!

Emma~ The thing I loved about all the Eastern states was how many day trip options there were within such close range. Here...not so much.

Ember~ Have a great time in Denver. I wish I'd had the chance to see more of the city last time I was there.

Jenna~ I'm sure you've been to at least one exciting place in your life -- hopefully you'll get to see more of the world some day!

As for the TT headers...there is a section for "header graphics" at the www.thursdaythirteen.com home page and a ton more posted in the TT forum. You might also try googling "thursday thirteen graphics."

Jana~ We have enough cows here, TYVM. (Hello? Dairy State??) I actually have been through Mississippi a few times, just never stopped anywhere along the way. Maybe some day...

Shelley~ What are you waiting for? Catch up already! ;)

Lis~ Memphis was pretty cool. Much like New Orleans there's music streaming from almost every doorway, and even in December Beale Street was a lively place to be.
