Thursday Thirteen #51: Life Soundtrack

It's a good thing I did this last week when I saw it on Gina and MsMenozzi's blogs, because I'm sick again and definitely not able to come up with something on the fly. Not this week, anyway. Head is too stuffy and throat too sore from coughing all day to even try. So, please take pity and let me know you stopped by.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If your life were a movie, what would the soundtrack be?
Open your music library (iTunes, winamp, media player, iPod). Put it on shuffle. Press play. For every section, type the song that's playing. Next section: press the next button. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool. Play it as it comes up.
Since I don’t have a personal music player, I used the radio and tried to note songs in the order they came on. This works best with a station like the one I usually listen to, which plays an eclectic mix of music -- blues, oldies, rock, classic rock, reggae -- you never know what they're going to play next. So, here's what they were playing on my local radio station last Thursday afternoon. Ordinarily I would try to find a sampling of lyrics or link to an artist website, but remember--I'm sick and to do that for every song requires more energy than I possess at the moment.
1. Opening Credits: “Falling Slowly” from ONCE (Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova ~ great opening, no?)
2. Waking Up: “Changes” by David Bowie (Turn and face the strange…yeah, that about sums up how some days go.)
3. Falling in Love: “Are you Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet (Ahem…only if you change “girl” to “boy.”)
4. Breaking Up: “Rain” by Blind Melon
5. Life's Okay: “Supernatural Super Serious” by REM
6. Mental Breakdown: “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da” by The Police (Don’t think me unkind / Words are hard to find / They’re only cheques I’ve left unsigned / From the banks of chaos in my mind / And when their eloquence escapes me / Their logic ties me up rapes me)
7. Flashback: “A-Punk” by Vampire Weekend (This is one I had not heard before)
8. Getting Back Together: “Say You Want a Revolution” by The Beatles
9. Wedding: “The World I Know” by Collective Soul
10. Birth of Child: Don’t have kids, don’t plan to, so I'm skipping this one. Sorry!
11. Final Battle: “Wild Wild Life” by Talking Heads
12. Death Scene: “If I Had Eyes” by Jack Johnson (If I had eyes in the back of my head I would have told you that you looked good as I walked away)
13. Ending Credits: “Bad” by U2
It's spooky how often the songs fit the categories!
The titles, at least (I'm not familiar with all of the songs) fit really well!
Hope you feel better soon!
Debbie~ Yep...you definitely have to try it!
Shelley and Darla~ Isn't it eerie how well most of the titles fit each category?
Darla and Jennifer~ Thank you for the get well wishes. I woke up coughing, but think I got some of the gunk out of my system - for a while anyway. :-\
Tempest~ Isn't it? That's why I love this station - they play virtually everything except rap and hiphop! :)
That is spooky. It wouldn't work on mine as I don't have any tunes. Maybe I could do it off the radio or something.
Hugs on the cold. I'm just getting over mine.
Thanks Adelle!
Debora~ Mwahahaha...don't you hate it when that happens? *WEG*
Alice~ Use the radio like I did, but try to find a station that plays a variety of music. Glad you're feeling better!
RG~ Thanks for the get-well wishes!
I'll have to keep this one in mind for one of those crazy weeks (ok, crazier than usual?). Hope you're feeling better, we're just getting over something similar at our house. I hadn't lost my voice in a while.. that was fun.
Savvy~ Can't wait to read the results of yours!
Tawny~ Definitely a little spooky, but lots of fun too. Hope you give it a try!
Awww.. hope you feel better soon, hun. I agree, it is spooky, especially since it was the radio.
I wonder though, is it just that some songs will fit any number of them? *looks around suspiciously*
Jennifer Shirk said...
Ha! They came out pretty good for using the radio! :)
Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday!! I don't have a music library either, and although I like listening to music in the car and such, I'm not a huge music buff.
Cheers!!
