Thursday Thirteen #69: CowParade Revisited

During the summer of 2006, Madison hosted CowParade Wisconsin. 100 decorated fiberglass cows were displayed around the area--five in nearby Sun Prairie and six in Fitchburg, but the majority were in downtown Madison. I managed to see all but those in Sun Prairie (having no way to get there) and posted many to this blog between June and October of that year. Here are thirteen I never got around to sharing.

I love them. Around here it's all grizzly bears and such.

Thanks, Alice! I loved touring the city that summer and checking them all out. Some were a little funky, but most were impressive works of art, no matter what the medium.

These are great. We've had cows in Queen Street, Auckland, too. They're very cool.

Shelley~ How cool! I love how international CowParade is, and would love to see other displays sometime.

Tempest~ Uh huh -- lots of imagination in these, some more than others. The baseball one is named for former Milwaukee Brewer and Hall of Famer, Robin Yount, who was HUGE all the years we were growing up.

Awesome!!!!! You really capture the best part of Madison.

Adelle~ Nope, definitely not something you see every day, LOL. Since we hosted CowParade, I've heard of other cities that do things like sheep or carousel horses, and last summer Minneaopolis/St Paul had dinosaurs.

Stephanie~ Aren't they? It was really neat seeing them lined up along different streets, or little herds in courtyards here and there.

Bethanne~ Thanks! These were just my "leftovers." You should see some of those I posted two years ago--there were bees, Badgers, four from The Wizard of Oz...just an amazing collection of work. Three favorites were Bumper Cow, Cow Chip and Sundae Best. Hehe...

Thanks Jennifer! This was certainly one of my favorite events held in Madison. It would be awesome to visit another CowParade some day!

Happy T13! I love your list today very cool and very unusual. I love the beautiful pictures. Hope to see you at my 11th edition about Catherine Anderson at Talk About My Favorite Authors blog.

Thanks Phoebe! It was difficult choosing only one picture of each cow; some were so different and perty all the way around. ;)

I love Wisconsin Violet!!!! It looks just so perfect!

Heather said...

Thanks Paige!

Nadia~ Isn't she a pretty one? And so calm amidst the louder ones like Africow, which was just down the street from where she stood.

Holy wow, those are fantabulous. Has it really been since 2006??? Gracious, it doesn't seem like that long ago.

Hi Heather,

My daughter like the dragonfly cow the best, and for me it was more a toss up between the cows with cows painted on them and the cheese cow.

Did you know that in Australia they have decorated cows too? I found out through an blog friend from Australian.

Janice~

Thanks Jana ~ Yes, it really has been two years. They were such a major part of our city for so many months that I still sometimes catch myself looking for them.

Janice~ I'm glad your daughter liked the Cowflies one - it was really pretty. Surprisingly, I only had the one image of it on my computer, though I was sure I had one of it's side. "Say Cheese" was also one of my favorites. If you get the chance, look through the archives with your daughter--there are a lot of different or "unusual" ones posted previously.

And yes--I had heard about the Aussie herd (2002). They have had CowParades all over the world. You can find info on past, current and upcoming events at their website (http://www.cowparade.com/).

Welcome Eaton ~ I'm glad you like the cows. They were definitely an uplifting site around town during the months they were on display!
