Thursday Thirteen 82: Movies About Writers

From funny to serious, here are thirteen of my favorite movies featuring writers, in no particular order. Well, except the first one--Speechless is definitely top of my list. Note that this is in no way a comprehensive list of such movies, merely some of my top choices.

1. Speechless (Geena Davis/Michael Keaton; Rival political speech writers fall in love)
2. Finding Neverland (Johnny Depp/Kate Winslet)
3. Shakespeare in Love (Joseph Fiennes/Gwyneth Paltrow)
4. As Good as it Gets (Helen Hunter/Jack Nicholson/Greg Kinnear/Cuba Gooding Jr)
5. Romancing the Stone (Michael Douglas/Kathleen Turner)
6. Finding Forrester (Sean Connery/Rob Brown)
7. Paris When it Sizzles (Audrey Hepburn/William Holden; campy but funny)
8. His Girl Friday (Cary Grant/Rosalind Russell)
9. Under the Tuscan Sun (Diane Lane/Sandra Oh/Raoul Bova)
10. Love, Actually (Colin Firth/Hugh Grant/Emma Thompson/Liam Neeson)
11. Funny Farm (Chevey Chase/Madolyn Smith)
12. Impromtu (Hugh Grant/Judy Davis; Story of Chopin and George Sand)
13. Throw Momma From the Train (Danny DeVito/Billy Crystal)

Do you have a favorite movie featuring writers?

I've only watched a couple of these. Love Actually is one of my all-time favorite movies.

Let's see... I've seen

3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10. I'll have to save the rest of the list for later, though.

Happy TT!

I've seen about half those movies, although I admit to never having seen the end of Finding Neverland. We have it on DVD, and I ended up being called away when we were watching it. SoundGuy warned me later it would make me cry, so I'm afraid to go back.

One that I really enjoy that you don't have is Stranger Than Fiction. I think it's so much fun!

Under the Tuscan Sun makes me want to go to Italy.

Shelley~ One of my fave as well--but you probably guessed since it was on my list, huh? *grin*

Ms Menozzi~ Look at all the good ones you have to look forward to!

Inez~ Uh-oh...LOL Look at it as not wasting time watching movies, but as doing research. ;-)

Adelle~ That is a good one, isn't it? One of Jack's best!

Stephanie~ Two excellent choices. I just watched "Tusacan" again the other day. I never tire of it. *sigh*

Lynn~ *Gasp* You have to watch the ending! Yes, it is a bit sad, but very good, too. I'll have to watch for "Stranger Than Fiction" as I have not yet seen it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Jennifer~ So that's two recs for "Stranger Than Fiction." I do remember wanting to see it, but missed it when it was in the theaters. Will definitely look for it!

Alice~ Yup, something for every mood. You know me--I aim to please, hehe.

Paige~ Thanks! Hopping over to read yours now. *grin*

You won me with, Shakespeare in Love.
I loved that movie and I loved/hated the ending. I would have written the ending differently, but that is the 'fluff' lover in me. Happy TT! :)

Eaton~ Yes, I also loved/hated the ending of SIL. You wanted them to have that HEA, even though you knew it was impossible.

Mary~ You've missed two of the funniest. I think you need to curl up in front of the DVD player some weekend and rememdy that! ;-)

Annalee~ Happy to help fill out your Netflix list! *g*

Janice~ Cool! I bet you've never seen SPEECHLESS either, have you? Every time I mention it, it seems I'm the only one who has.
