Thursday Thirteen 139: Winter Wonderland

As you may recall, Madison experienced a major blizzard December 8-9. The following weekend, I had the chance to get out for a walk and enjoy (for the most part) the winter wonderland.

One of the little crab apple trees at my apartment complex.

Snowman in front of apartments on Fish Hatchery Rd.

Polar Express?

Geese on Wingra Creek near Fish Hatchery and Wingra Dr.

Wingra Creek

Reflection

At least the Wingra bike path, along Wingra Drive, was well-cleared!

The creek may have been frozen between bridges,
but I don't think I would have trusted it so soon after
the blizzard, whether the fish were biting or not.

Two more ice fishermen

Bridge entering the UW Arboretum--note the
open water under the bridge.

Road over bridge entering the Arboretum.

View of Wingra Creek over left side of the bridge.

View of the carousel building at Vilas Zoo, looking
across Wingra Creek from right side of the bridge.

Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate!

Thanks, Brenda. Merry Christmas!

It does look like a reminder of Polar Express. I love the reflection. Happy holidays!

Looooove the one of the Arboretum bridge.

The pictures you got are radically different from what Mr. Al got.

Hazel ~ Thank you! "Reflections" is one of my faves of the pics I took. The Arboretum bridge pic Alice likes is another fave.

Alice ~ Really? Our pics were that different? I did take pics the day after the storm, too, but did not get those uploaded yet. I did these first as I really wanted to use them for this week's T13. Also remember that the west and south sides of town had a good four inches more snow than east and north sides. I'm telling you, it's those darn lakes in the middle! lol

The photos almost make me want to give up summer. Almost :)

Heather said...

Shelley ~ LOL... Trust me, snow is one thing, but I doubt you would enjoy the rain/sleet/snow mix we're getting through Christmas day. Yuck! Listening to the sleet pinging against my window earlier was giving me chills.

Great photos. We've been hoping for a white Christmas but it looks like we're just getting wet. Happy holidays.

What delightful snowy views of your wintry wonderland complete with informative (and clever) labels (my fav is 'Polar Express') ... your photos take my breath away (being the aging native Southern California barefooted beach gal I am) because I've never seen such beauty first hand. Thanks so much for sharing. Wishing you a Joyous Holiday!
Hugs and blessings,

My T13 is at Small Reflections this week.

We haven't had any snow yet this year, but some is predicted for today. Thanks for posting your pix. Merry Christmas to you, and happy TT!!

We've had two big snows and I've been out taking pictures too, barns and country scenes. Merry Christmas to you!

Gorgeous photos. It really does look like a winter wonderland.

I love icy, snow scenery, so beautiful!

Willa ~ Two feet of snow is definitely an overload, lol.

Sandy ~ Thank you, and to your family as well!

Jill ~ Ugh! This time of year I would much rather have the snow than rain, especially when temps dip below freezing at night.

Ryzmomplus2 ~ Thank you, and thanks for visiting!

Storyteller ~Thank you, I'm glad you like the labels and that I could share my white Christmas with you.

Ornery's Wife ~ Thank you, I hope you get your snow today!

Colleen ~ I wish I could get out to take pics of some of the barns, or a small country cemetery near here, but am afraid I'll have to settle for the city scenes.

Andi ~ Thank you! It's looking a wee bit dreary today, what with overcast skies and the rain/snow mix coming down. At least I have the pristine beauty of my photos!

Inez ~Thank you, Merry Christmas!

Even though they're great pics, I have to say I totally don't miss the snow or the freezing weather that goes along with it!

Merry Christmas!

*grin* The difference is that all the ones he showed me were of houses.

Heather -

Great pics! Glad the storm didn't quite make it down to Chicago :)

Heather said...

Paige ~ LOL...wimp!

Alice ~ Ah, that would be a difference. I only passed apartment buildings on my walk, and those weren't weren't as picturesqur as other scenery.

Debbie ~Thank you. I seem to recall that Chicago had mostly rain out of that storm, sort of like the past couple days. I had difficulty sleeping last night with icy sleet pinging against the windows. *shiver*
