Teaser Tuesday 73: The Magician's Nephew

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

One of my reading goals this year is to reread The Chronicles of Narnia. I remember reading some of the books in fifth grade, but cannot recall reading all of them. I read this book on Sunday, while I was holed up during another wintery storm (sleet/rain/snow/yuck!). None of it was familiar, so I am guessing I missed this one previously. This is from midway through the book.

It was a Lion. Huge, shaggy, and bright, it stood facing the risen sun. Its mouth was wide open in song and it was about three hundred yards away. (pg 119)

About the Book:
The Magician’s Nephew (Book 1)
By CS Lewis

NARNIA... Where the woods are thick and cool, where Talking Beasts are called to life...a new world where the adventure begins.

Digory and Polly meet and make friends one cold, wet summer in London. Their lives burst into adventure when Digory's Uncle Andrew, who thinks he is a magician, sends them hurtling to...somewhere else. They find their way to narnia, newborn from the Lion's song, and encounter the evil sorceress Jadis, before they finally return home.

I remember that.

I read the whole series, but I had to push my way through the last few books because it was in a time in my life when I felt I had to finish anything I started. It has many good parts, but it wasn't really my thing.

I reread this series about 5 years ago. Now my son is reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for school and I am tempted to reread again.

Here is my teaser for this week.

Jennifer: Glad you enjoyed the flashback!

Wendi: We didn't read these together as a family, and I think only one of my younger sisters read them after I did.

Shelley: Just this one, or the series in general?

Frosy: I hope reading the series is a good memory!

Beth: Thanks, I do hope I enjoy the rest of them!

Tasha: Obviously it's been a *ahem* few years since I read them. The recent spate of movies has had me wanting to reread for a few years now.

Belinda: Indeed!

Alice: Two of the books I know I read are actually from later in the series. Will be interesting to see how much of them is familiar now.

Marg: I hope your son is enjoying it!

I just love the chronicles of Narnia. Kaye—the road goes ever ever on

Hi Kaye! I tried to get over to your blog this afternoon, but work was too busy. I know, how dare it interfer with Teaser Tuesday, right? *g*

This must be a fun trip down memory lane for you. I don't even remember what I was reading in the fifth grade, probably because it was sooooo long ago! Glad you're enjoying the series.
