Teaser Tuesday 88: In the Woods

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few “teaser” sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

Just about done with this one. The author's writing style is such that I wouldn't call this a fast read, but it has drawn me in.

If you, like me, are essentially a city person, then the chances are that when you imagine a wood you picture a simple thing: matching green trees in even rows, a soft carpet of dead leaves or pine needles, orderly as a child’s drawing. Possibly those earnestly efficient man-made woods are in fact like that; I wouldn’t know.

About the book:
In the Woods
By Tana French

As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.

Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a twelve-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox—his partner and closest friend—find themselves investigating a case chillingly similar to the previous unsolved mystery. Now, with only snippets of long-buried memories to guide him, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the mystery of the case before him and that of his own shadowy past.

This does sound interesting! I may have to add it to my wishlist. I'll wait for your review to decide.

My teasers are from The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong and Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh. Happy reading!

Hi Kathy! It was slow getting into this one, but once we started getting into the dual mysteries it did pull me in. Still have 60 pages to go. I was hoping to finish last night but was too tired!

This book is supposed to be great! I grew up in the woods and still live in the woods now! Thanks for stopping by my teaser--and definitely add The Restorer to your list, I think you'll really like it!

Jenny: I thought this one started out slow, but by page 100 I was pulled in. However, I did not like the ending. It left me feeling quite dissatisfied.

This one will set me off. Those "orderly" woods are called tree plantations, and I hate them. They creep me out.
