Temporary Leave

As those who use blogger know, they implemented changes this weekend in the way you upload photos and add other content. My opinion? I don't like it. In fact, I loathe it. HATE it, even. I just spent some time trying to upload new photos and had to give up because 1) it now takes 3x as long to add a photo and 2) I could not get said photos to look the way I wanted them to.

In the old format, this would have been a breeze, taking only a few minutes of my time. New format? Half an hour screwing around with it and I gave up. The thing about blogger is that it is "supposed" to be easy to use for those not very html savvy and who are not computer programmers. The same cannot be said of this new format. I do not know when -- or IF -- I will be back. I may have to check out other free blog services and see how they compare.

yeah, they did't do that as well as they might have. a couple days the fonts were all screwy. now it's hard to navigate the familiar bits. it may be easier for new people but it's a pain for those using it for a few years. it seems not better, just different.

wordpress is ok. I use it for some of my blogs. at least upgrades, if you host it on your own server, you decide to do rather than it being a surprise non-party.

Hmmm...I tried it out in both IE and Firefox and both seemed like usual to me. I think I may have upgraded to the "new" format sometime ago so that may be why. Apparently they finally forced you to upgrade.

Honestly, though, I've never had any issues with this format...if the one I'm using is the same as yours.

Or maybe they're testing out another new format on you that's harder.

Weird.

Either way, I hope you figure things out soon, one way or the other, and can get back to blogging. (((hugs)))

If you want, you can still get into the old interface by clicking on the little gear next to the language selector in the upper right-hand corner.

It's just under the log out selector where your name is.

If you hold your mouse pointer over the gear it should say "Blogger Options". If you click on it, one of the options is the "Old Blogger Interface".

You can get back to then new interface by clicking the "upgrade" option that will now appear on the screen.

Not sure how long this will be available, but it's here for the moment.

I'm using the Chrome browser and haven't had too many problems.

I recommend Wordpress. But then, you already knew that. Not that they don't irritate me too, just not as much.

Thanks for all your input, everyone!

I guess my biggest issue -- aside from the fact that it takes so much longer for photos to upload than it used to -- is that they took away one of the 'alignment' options. There used to be a choice of 'none,' which is what I used for some of my book posts. I tried going into html and taking out all alignment commands, but that did not work, either. Sigh...

I am still going to take this week off and play around with it as I find time (HA!). Hopefully I will be back to the normal schedule next week. :-\

So they mostly hit you with a learning curve. That sucks, but it happens a lot in blog land.

How's it going? Getting closer to posting? Oh, and did you get the book? I sent it ages ago, by slow boat :)

Hi Alice! I attempted to upload some photos over the weekend. Alas, we've had some stormy weather through, so they um...did not get posted. I'm trying to put together a teaser double feature for this week. ;)

Oh, and with the weather outlook for the week, I may only manage two or three posts. There's a chance of severe storms every day Tuesday through Sunday. Lovely. :-\
