Teaser Tuesday 179: Escape

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

* Grab your current book or recent read.
* Share a few "teaser" sentences from somewhere in the book.
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author so that other participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser!

I recently finished Escape, a romance by Barbara Delinsky. It's been a while since I read something by this author, but this book reminded me why I liked her books so much. Since the opening is what drew me in, I thought I would share it with you today.

Have you ever woken up in a cold sweat, thinking that you've taken a wrong turn and are stuck in a life you don't want? Did you ever consider hitting the brakes, backing up, and heading elsewhere?

How about disappearingleaving family, friends, even a spouseditching everything you've known and starting over again. Reinventing yourself. Rediscovering yourself. Maybe, just maybe, returning to an old lover. Have you ever dreamed about this?

No. Me neither. No dream, no plan.

BACK COVER BLURB:

Emily Aulenbach is an idealistic young lawyer who once dreamed of representing victims of corporate abuse. Instead, she now spends her days in a cubicle arguing victims of corporate greed out of their rightful claims. She no longer connects with much in her life, period, with the exception of three things—her computer, her Blackberry, and her watch. One day, she snaps. Without telling anyone where she is going, she heads north to Bell Valley, New Hampshire, the small town where she spent a life-altering summer during her college years. There, she will set out to forge new relationships with lovers, long-lost friends and the person she once wanted to become

Sonia: Never? I can;t tell you how often I've thought about running away from home, lol.

I read that one when it first came out. She is one of my 'must read' authors.

I've had that dream . . . . thanks for stopping by. I was impressed with your list of "big books" that you have read. Have a nice 4th of July.

Oh I can see how that opener drew you in!

I love the sound of this one! Don't we all share this dream of escape once in a while? :-)

Hi Kim! Delinsky used to be an auto-read of mine, but I lost track of her over the years as I dicovered other authors. Really must catch up on some of her other books in Mount TBR!

Sheri: It was an interesting read, and a good one, too. It was one of those that kept me up late finishing.

Heather said...

Kelley: Thanks for the comment on my "big" books. Most I read during school summer breaks in HS and college, but Anna Karenina was a more recent read, and one I wouldn't have undertaken had it not been a GR group read. Happy 4th!

Beth F: Thank you, isn't it a great hook? Certainly worked for me! :)

Heather said...

Annie: Thank you. I know I've certainly entertained that fantasy from time to time. Probably why I was so drawn to this one! ☺

Who hasn't thought about hitting the rewind button a few times? :) Sounds like a good book!

I enjoyed this book...I always find something to love in a Delinsky book. Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.

Heather said...

Andrea: Glad to have interested you in the book, I hope you like it as much as I did!

Heather said...

Greg: Thanks, it was a good one. Some days/years are like that, I think--so many things we would have said or done differently. Too bad we can't rewind once in a while. :-\

Heather said...

Laurel-Rain: She's definitely an author worth reading. I need to make more of an effort to get to some of the Delinsky books I have in Mount TBR.

I've definitely thought of doing something like that :) ... Thanks for sharing!
