Wordless Wednesday 147: Ginkgo Leaves

This summer, more than a dozen ginkgo leaf cutouts were on display at Monona Terrace. They were decorated by local artists, students and residents. Below are the few I managed to find during a brief stop back in July.

Artist: Lisa Johnson, Diane Amundson and Percy Mather

Artist: Lynn Lee

Artist: Monroe Street Arts Center

Artist: Maddie Schiele

Artist: Nicole Koontz and Darhl Hill

Artist: Rachel Herbsman and Brenda Gratton

Amazing what they did here. So insoiring to see arts around town. What a nice project. #ww

Pixie: It's interesting how different they all are, isn't it? I wish the project had been better publicized, and that I'd had more time to seek out the rest of them.

Each is done so creatively. I love the mosaic and collage. The blue one near the end and red! And it's a nice way to learn to identify ginko.

Those are all so neat. The one with the nest is kinda sad, but in a beautiful way. :-)

Colleen: I confess, when I first saw them I did not know they were supposed to be ginkgo leaves. They looked like umbrellas, especially as so many chose to decorate them with the "umbrella" at top.

Jana: The blue one with the nest is my favorite, too, followed by the mosaic tiles.

How fun! My town offered dolphin sculptures to paint as a fundraiser several years ago.

Hi Kristin! I bet the dolphins were fu to see. Our city has hosted both CowParade and Artzoobilee in previous years, both of which were better advertised than the ginkgo leaves. There is also an annual charity event in which local celebs decorate violins to auction off. Still waiting for tehm to do the pianos that so many other cities have done. ☺

There are some pretty wild differences between one and another. I like the last one best.

Alice: There is quite a difference in designs. Would be interesting to know what the rest looked like, but I have been unable to find much of anything about them online, not even photos.
