Wordless Wednesday 161: Christmas Turkeys
Due to the proximity of several nature preserves, it is not unusual to see wild turkeys roaming my neighborhood, usually in groups of three to ten. Last Friday I saw the largest flock of turkeys I have ever seen, between forty to fifty birds. They literally stopped traffic to cross the street, and brought people out to gawk at them. Here are a few pics I was able to get.

Anita: Yes, some of the birds were coming fairly close, so long as I stood in one place. This spectacle completely made my day/week/month. ☺
Colleen: GASP! How could you? LOL
Katie: I loved that they were crossing the road by that little Christmas tree, and a number of them had to check it out. A large number of them then disappeared between the houses and into backyards, while some decided to check out the rooftops. It was hard not to smile and laugh while watching and listening to them.
We have wild turkeys around here too but not that many! I love how they are checking out the Christmas tree!
Great pics! They move fast, so they're hard to capture with a photo. You did a great job. We had a huge flock here in McFarland a couple of years ago. Since then, we have a few here and there from time to time. They're entertaining to watch. :)
I don't see wild turkeys often, but I love it when I do - it's a treat!

NJ Memories: I love that they were all walking past the Christmas tree. Too bad we don't have much snow right now - that would have been perfection.
Thanks, Beth! They really do walk fast, and are so funny when they start running. Our neighborhood turkeys are so used to seeing people, that if I stay still for a while, they will often come fairly close.
Sue: Even as often as we see them in our neighborhood, it's still a treat to see them. This day was especially fun with there being so many and with several of them on rooftops.
I've never seen turkeys come to town, but I sometimes see flocks out in the fields, but never close enough to get good photos like yours. Very interesting!

Hi Lea! There are a few nature preserves in my area, most notably the Arboretum, so I often see wild turkeys wandering the neighborhood. I think they are too used to humans being around, as they will come within a few yards of me if I stay still for a while. No luck on the sun, I'm afraid -- more cloudy skies today, and looks like snow coming in for Christmas.
That last shot is the best. Love it.
