Thursday Thirteen 394: Autumn Cemetery

More photos from Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison -- I believe this array shows the age and beauty of the cemetery, which predates the Civil War. You'll note that many are time-worn or broken. There is much debate among taphophiles as to whether older and/or damaged grave markers should be repaired or replaced. In some instances, descendants may opt to repair or replace broken monuments, sometimes leaving the old one alongside the new.

This is one of my favorite photos taken during my visit last year.

WISHING EVERYONE A HAPPY AND SAFE HALLOWEEN!

Sandy: Isn't it? Thanks for visiting.

The aging gives them so much character. One reminds me of Ebeneezer Scrooge's!

I love old cemeteries. We have some with dates back to the 1700s on them. I love walking through them. My favorite picture is the one with the tombstones and the yellow leaves.

I think the sadness inspired by the decay of the tombstones is totally appropriate for any cemetery.

The one with the red leaves is pretty.

Colleen: Don't they have character? Easy to see why I like exploring this cemetery, isn't it?

Anita: I love walking through old cemeteries best -- there's so much history there. The one with yellow leaves is probably my second favorite.

Alice: Definitely! Glad you like the same pic I do. :)
