Zen & the Art of...

The Art of....

Bookseller Robert Gray posted a thought-provoking entry to his blog on August 1, "Zen & the Art of..." Very deep with a touch of humor -- and perhaps especially interesting to me considering my recent interest in Ikebana. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging -- though that is really a simplified definition. I've been fascinated with Ikebana since viewing a display at the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh back in the fall of 2001. Ikebana eschews the showy, pretentious arrangements of the Western world in favor of a more simplistic, linear arrangement. And though an arrangement may be "simpler" in form, the stark simplicity speaks to the soul.
