Another Winter Advisory
Do you remember the Winter Storm of December 2009? I talked about our Snow Day on the 8th and again mentioned the late autumn blizzard on the 9th.
This time last year, Madison experienced a blizzard of record proportions, a storm that dumped 14-18 inches of snow on the city, depending which side of the lakes one was on. The "official" measurement recorded at the airport (north of the lakes) was 14.1 inches. Here on the south/west side it was nearer 18. Trust me, those four inches make a HUGE difference.
Madison received 3-1/2 inches last weekend, and another 3 inches yesterday--mere precursors to what this weekend has in store for us. There's another big system moving in from the west (thanks, Alice!) that is supposed to start with a "winter mix" -- rain, snow, drizzle -- basically everything Mother Nature can through at us. Depending on the source, we could have another 3-5 or 5-10 inches of snow on the ground by end of Saturday. I'm hoping for that shorter estimation.
If you're one of the many who will be housebound due to weather this weekend, or just want an excuse to loaf around at home, see last year's list of winter movies to help you appreciate the joys of winter--or experience it vicariously. And if you really must travel during this kind of weather, please be prepared. Keep a supply of food, water and warm blankets in your car, as well as a vast supply of patience. You're going to need it.

It's posts like this that make me supremely grateful that my wimpy butt lives in the south...where it may be cold but at least it isn't raining frozen water. Not yet, anyway. lol
Aw, c'mon, Jana... You KNOW you want to come visit me during the winter. By the way, the first big snow of 2011 should be during the last two weeks of January. That's when the boss and wife are going on a cruise. Ne-ver fails...
Oh shoot. Looks like I'm booked through the winter and can't visit. Darn. :-p~~
WIMP! lol
